Washington and Lee University Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach Maddie Coleman was selected as the 2023 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Coach of the Year in voting conducted by the league’s coaches.

Coleman steered W&L to a 19-2 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play during her first season with the Blue & White. The Generals notched eight wins against ranked opponents throughout the season, while the 19 wins tied the program record for victories in a season.

The Generals completed the regular season ranked second in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III poll and seized the conference title with a 16-9 win over second-seeded Roanoke College on May 7.

W&L received the ODAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, hosting the first and second rounds on May 13-14 and the regional championship on May 20-21. The Generals defeated Capital University in the second round by a score of 22-5, before falling to Gettysburg College, 11-8, in the Round of 16.

A Lexington native, Coleman returned home after nine seasons as an assistant coach at Denison University. She graduated from Gettysburg with a bachelor’s degree in political science and earned a master’s degree in sport leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
