W&L Hosts Washington and S(Lee)P Day The event is free and open to the public.

Washington and Lee University will host a drop-in information session related to sleep quality on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. in the Center for Global Learning (CGL) Atrium.

During the event, which is free and open to the public, participants will have the opportunity to visit various sleep stations to learn how sleep impacts physical and mental well-being and how to improve their overall sleep health.

The idea for “Washington and S(Lee)P Day” stemmed from a Spring Term course taught by Ryan Brindle, assistant professor of cognitive and behavioral science. The course was titled Current Advances in Psychological Science: Sleep, Health and Society.

“I didn’t intend for the class to actually turn into an event,” said Brindle, “but there was interest on campus. Some of the students from that class are still involved and some new students have gotten involved who are working on sleep research in the laboratory.”

In Parmly Hall, Brindle has set up a laboratory complete with a “bedroom” and the latest in sleep-tracking technology.

This event is sponsored by the students of the CBSC-295: Sleep, Health and Society class and the WLU Office of Health Promotion.
