W&L Recognized for Excellence in Educational Fundraising

Washington and Lee has received a 2019 CASE Educational Fundraising Award for Overall Performance from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. This is the sixth time since 2005 that W&L has received the award for overall performance, which recognizes colleges and universities that show solid program growth, breadth in the base of support and other indications of a mature, well-maintained program.

W&L joins a group of just 37 four-year colleges and universities who were recognized with the 2019 award in this category. Among private liberal arts institutions with endowments of $100 million or more were Washington and Lee, Colby, Gustavus Adolphus, Kenyon, Vassar and Williams. Other colleges and universities recognized for overall performance included Dartmouth, Harvard, Stanford, Cal-Berkeley, UCLA, UNC-Chapel Hill and UT-Austin.

“We are thrilled to receive another CASE Fundraising Award for Overall Performance,” said Dennis Cross, vice president of University Advancement. “The recognition reflects the generosity and commitment of Washington and Lee’s alumni, parents and friends and their willingness to support the high quality and distinctiveness represented by a W&L education. Our supporters are grateful for the lasting difference a W&L education makes in their lives and careers and want to help provide the same transformative opportunity to today’s students. I am also grateful for the dedicated Advancement staff who work tirelessly, thoughtfully and professionally to engage W&L alumni and help connect them to the mission, strategic priorities and success of their university.”

CASE is a nonprofit membership association of more than 3,700 educational institutions throughout the world. It helps develop the communities of professional practice that build institutional success and includes staff engaged in alumni relations, fundraising, marketing, student recruitment, stakeholder engagement, crisis communications and government relations. Its Educational Fundraising Awards annually recognize exemplary fundraising programs and activities based on a blind review by experienced professionals of data submitted to the AMAtlas Voluntary Support of Education Survey (VSE).
