W&L BLSA Team Second at National Moot Court Competition Jessiah Hulle ‘20L and Tomi Akinmola ‘21L were the runners-up in the National Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition, held this weekend in Cincinnati during the National Black Law Students Association conference.

The Washington and Lee School of Law Black Law Students Association (BLSA) moot court team of Jessiah Hulle ‘20L and Tomi Akinmola ‘21L were the runners-up in the National Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition, held this weekend in Cincinnati during the National Black Law Students Association conference.

Hulle and Akinmola also received the award for Best Brief for the competition. Other teams competing this weekend included the moot court team of Noriya Shahadat ‘21L and Junior Ndlovu ‘20L and the mock trial team of Kasia Wiggins ‘20L, George Bouchard ‘21L, Sabrina Matlock ‘22L, and Chris Watts ‘22L. Both of these teams reached the quarterfinals of their respective competitions.

This is the ninth year teams from W&L have competed in the BLSA moot court and mock trial competitions. W&L teams have advanced to nationals every year.

The moot court and mock trial competition are sponsored by the National Black Law Student Association (NBLSA). NBLSA is a national organization formed to articulate and promote the needs and goals of black law students and effectuate change in the legal community. In addition to hosting the competitions, the regional and national conferences serve as an opportunity for students to network with other students as well as practitioners and potential employers.
