Washington and Lee University presents a public reading with author Erin Crosby Eckstine on May 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Northen Auditorium inside Leyburn Library.

Eckstine’s reading is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Glasgow Endowment. Copies of her debut novel, “Junie” (2025), will be available for purchase.

A Good Morning America Book Club pick, “Junie” follows a young girl who must face a life-altering decision after awakening her sister’s ghost, navigating truths about love, friendship and power as the Civil War looms.

Eckstine’s visit is part of the Literary Book Publishing class taught by Beth Staples, assistant professor of English and editor of Shenandoah literary magazine. The class will be reading “Junie” and meeting with Eckstine while she is on campus, then later meeting virtually with her agent, editor and cover designer.

Eckstine writes in a range of genres, including speculative historical fiction and personal essays. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, she grew up between the South and Los Angeles before moving to New York City to attend Barnard College. She worked in digital media before teaching high school English in Brooklyn, New York. She is now a full-time writer and resides in Brooklyn.
