To most Americans, the Super Bowl is an excellent opportunity to gather with friends and family and enjoy an assortment of finger foods and dips, all while watching football and analyzing the commercial breaks. But for Brett Strohsacker ’06, this year’s Super Bowl meant so much more.

Strohsacker serves as the vice president of football communications for the Philadelphia Eagles, playing a pivotal role in promoting the team that claimed a 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, the most-watched football game of all time.

Strohsacker has worked three Super Bowls since joining the Eagles in 2007, experiencing a victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII in 2018 and a loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII in 2023. We caught up with Strohsacker following his team’s victory to discuss his experiences surrounding the big game and the celebrations that followed.

Q: Was there anything different about this Super Bowl experience that stands out to you?

Strohsacker: You try to go into it with a fresh perspective each time because it’s a different group of players, coaches and staff. It’s a different journey that the team has taken to get there. For me personally, each time has helped prepare me for the next one. Having been on both the winning and losing side previously, I knew what to expect either way and was prepared for how to handle those situations.

The other thing that has been different about each of my experiences has been the location. The first one was in Minneapolis with sub-zero temperatures, so we basically never left the team hotel other than to go to practice. Two years ago in Arizona, we were at a remote resort that was beautiful but did not allow for us to experience the city in any meaningful way. New Orleans is an awesome host city because everything is walkable and you’re right in the heart of things. So, during my free time, I could enjoy the culture of the city and get a feel for what the fans who made the trip were experiencing as well.

Q: You previously stated that Super Bowl week is a crazy busy time with different expectations than the average NFL game. As you reflect on the week you and your communications team just experienced, what are you most proud of regarding your work?

Strohsacker: First and foremost, I’m proud to be a small part of such a meaningful event. There is so much that goes into putting on an event like this – not just the game itself but the entire week leading up to it. But more than that, I’m proud of the way our staff, and the entire organization, pulls together to do anything we can to help our coaches and players achieve their ultimate goal.

Q: This year’s game was well in hand before the final whistle. Did that allow you to prepare for the postgame chaos any better than in the prior Super Bowls?

Strohsacker: You’re always going through the various scenarios in your head throughout the game. When it’s a close game, you have multiple plans that you must be ready to execute. The way the game was trending allowed a little bit more time to prepare for a winning scenario, but I think most of us were of the mindset that until the clock struck zero, we weren’t going to let our guard down.

Q: What will end up being your favorite memory from this Super Bowl experience?

Strohsacker: Being there to witness the pure joy from all the coaches and players. Knowing everything they have put into it and all the ups and downs they have experienced throughout the season. For me, this was the first time that all three of my kids (Jack, 11, Luke, 9 and Emma, 6) were able to attend the game and all were old enough to understand what was going on. That was special knowing they were at the game together and would have that memory forever.

Q: Word has it that more than 1 million people lined the streets for the championship parade in Philadelphia on Feb. 14. Can you share your impressions of the parade experience and how it compared to the one from seven years ago?

Strohsacker: I’m not sure how they come up with those estimates, but I remember being blown away the first time around at the number of fans who came out to support us. It’s about six miles from our stadium to the art museum, and the streets were packed with people the whole way. People were up in trees, on top of buildings, light poles, garbage trucks, wherever they could be to find a vantage point. I was curious to see what it would be like this time, and it was very similar. Not sure there’s a way to compare because I don’t think you can fit any more people along the route.

It is amazing to see and feel that support from the entire city, and it helps put into perspective how much the team means to the city and how much the city means to the team. There are plenty of videos out there for everyone to see how much the players enjoyed themselves, many of them getting off the buses and walking down the streets among the fans. Just a truly incredible experience that I am very fortunate to be part of twice now in the last eight years.

Q: Do you have a favorite moment or something you will always remember from this season?

Strohsacker: Saquon Barkley is a great player and an even better person from everything I experienced this year. It was a pleasure to work with him and be along for the ride as he nearly set the NFL’s single-season rushing record and helped lead our team to the Super Bowl. The way he carried himself throughout the season was a great example for all of us.
