Brittney Kemp Named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year The Generals’ second year head coach garnered the award for the first time in her W&L tenure.

Brittney Kemp, head women’s basketball coach at Washington and Lee University, was selected as the 2026 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year in voting conducted by the league’s coaches.

Kemp has led W&L to its greatest season in program history during the 2025-26 campaign, setting a new program record for wins with a perfect 28-0 record to date. The fourth-ranked Generals finished 16-0 in regular season conference play and won the ODAC Tournament with a 67-56 win over Randolph-Macon College in the championship game on Sunday, March 1.

W&L’s season continues in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday, March 6, when it hosts St. Mary’s College of Maryland (23-5) in the opening round at Holekamp Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. Should W&L win, it would take on either Gettysburg College (21-6) or Christopher Newport University (23-4) in the second round on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Kemp guided the Generals to a 25-5 overall record (14-2 ODAC) in her first season in 2024-25. W&L advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, falling to Baldwin Wallace University 75-71. In her two seasons, Kemp has produced a 53-5 (.914) overall record.

Kemp spent three seasons as the head coach at St. Mary’s College of Maryland before arriving in Lexington. She claims a 96-38 (.716) career record across her five seasons as a head coach. She holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Union College and a Master of Arts in American studies from Trinity College (Connecticut).
