Dana Freeman, head women’s track & field coach at Washington and Lee University, was named the 2025 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year after leading the Generals to the conference title.

W&L posted 206 team points to claim the league crown by a sizeable margin over the University of Lynchburg, which tallied 165 points. The win marked the Generals’ first ODAC Outdoor Championship in 30 years, after claiming their first indoor title in 16 years earlier this season. W&L registered six event wins during the championship, setting four new school records in the process.

Two W&L athletes qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship on May 22-24 in Geneva, Ohio. Camille Gillum ’25 will compete in the high jump, while Olivia Warr ’27 will participate in the 1,500 meters. Both athletes earned All-America honors following the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship.

Over her career at W&L, Freeman has coached her athletes to 66 individual conference championship titles, while 15 have qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship. Four have gone on to earn All-America status based on their finishes at the national championship meet.

Freeman joined the W&L faculty in 2013 after three years as an assistant track & field coach and director of student-athlete support services at Ashland University. She has also assisted the track & field programs at Roanoke College, The College of Wooster, Radford University and Campbell University. Freeman holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in sport management from Kent State University.
