Dean Melanie Wilson has announced the appointment of Freda Coleman-Jackson as Assistant Dean of Career Strategy, effective July 1. Coleman-Jackson has been serving in this role in an interim capacity since January.
“I am delighted and grateful that Freda Coleman-Jackson has agreed to step into this critical leadership role and bring her experience and enthusiasm to the position,” said Dean Wilson. “Freda has the legal background, the respect of the students, good relationships with alumni and legal employers, and the energy and vision to continue our outstanding success and outcomes for our graduates.”
Coleman-Jackson joined W&L in 2020, with experience working in law school admissions, student affairs and career services at several institutions, including Indiana University Maurer School of Law, Barry University School of Law, and Florida A&M University College of Law. She has spent the majority of her time at W&L counseling students with a focus on public interest and government-related opportunities. Coleman-Jackson has also held several leadership positions in the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), having previously served as co-chair of the Law Student Professional Development Section. She is currently serving a 2-year term on NALP’s Regional Leadership Council representing the Mid-Atlantic Region. Coleman-Jackson has presented nationally and internationally on topics related to law student career development and published articles on law student wellness and engagement in industry publications, such as the NALP Bulletin+.
“With the support of Dean Wilson, the Office of Career Strategy team, and the W&L Law community, I am excited to embark on the next phase of my career at W&L as Assistant Dean,” said Coleman-Jackson. “Our students and alumni continue to inspire me with their academic and professional accomplishments, and I look forward to helping our impressive graduates navigate next steps in their legal careers.”
Originally from Florida, Coleman-Jackson completed her undergraduate degree at Florida A&M and received a Masters from the University of Florida. She earned her J.D. from Mercer University and is currently finishing her Doctorate in Higher Education and Student Affairs through Indiana University.
