Gareth Minson ’20 has been awarded a Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Junior Summer Institute Fellowship at Princeton for the summer of 2019. Minson is a politics major, with a minor in women’s gender and sexuality studies.

“I am excited for this opportunity to learn the practical skills necessary to work in the public sphere and best serve my community,” said Minson.

The PPIA fellowship program helps students achieve a master’s or joint degree, typically in public policy, public administration, international affairs or a related field.

“Gareth is an incredibly bright and civic-minded student, and I am very excited for him because this program provides an incredible opportunity for training in leadership and public service in a time when diverse perspectives and public goods need greater representation in policy and government,” said Stuart Gray, assistant professor of politics and Minson’s adviser.

At W&L, Minson is involved in multiple organizations and community service programs. He is the president of Rotaract at Washington and Lee, a community service organization affiliated with Rotary International. He is also the president of College Access, a club that works with local high school students to increase college attainment, the vice president of College Democrats at W&L and the Burish intern coordinator, where he directs nine other students in community service programs at six local schools.
