Get to Know the Newest Members of the W&L Community – 11/16/22 The following individuals recently joined the Washington and Lee employee workforce.
Savannah Blake, Annual Giving Fellow – University Development
Q. Tell us a little about you and your background.
I am originally from the eastern shore of Virginia and have now lived in Lexington for two years. I attended Longwood University and received a degree in history and political science.
Q. Any favorite Lexington/regional spots or activities?
You can almost always find me at Brew Ridge Taps!
Q. How do you unwind/have fun? Any hobbies/hidden talents?
I enjoy cooking, paddleboarding, reading and spending time with my dog (Sophie) and cat (Frida).
Emma Martone, Administrative Assistant II – Law Library
Q. Tell us a little about you and your background.
I graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science degree in biology in 2020. I am now living in Lexington with my fiancé, Matt and our three dogs.
Q. Any favorite Lexington/regional spots or activities?
Matt and I love to take our dogs on walks around Boxerwood or on the Uncas Trail. We have also recently enjoyed evening walks around the W&L campus, so if you see someone walking three dogs, it’s probably us!
Q. Anything you are looking forward to in particular at W&L?
Of course, I am looking forward to meeting the amazing faculty and staff at W&L, but I have to admit that there is one person in particular that I look forward to crossing paths with — my mom, Kelly Martone! She is the administrative assistant for institutional history.

Q. Any favorite Lexington/regional spots or activities?
My favorite spot in Lexington is Jordan’s Point Park because it is so relaxing down by the water.
Q. How do you unwind/have fun? Any hobbies/hidden talents?
One of my favorite hobbies is kayaking with friends on the Maury River.

Q. Tell us a little about you and your background.
I hold a bachelor of arts degree in communication and psychology, and a master of science degree in higher education. I have two brothers (Aubre & Antonio) and two sisters (Aniah & Monet).
Q. Any favorite Lexington/regional spots or activities?
I am new to Virginia, so I am excited to go on hikes, snowboard and meet new people.
Q. How do you unwind/have fun? Any hobbies/hidden talents?
I like to watch movies, play video games and stay active. A hidden talent is that I can solve eight different kinds of Rubik’s Cubes.
Tim Vest, Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration – Law School
Q. Tell us a little about you and your background.
I am originally from Anchorage, Alaska, and I am married with two college-aged boys. The eldest is an aircraft mechanic in Alaska, while the younger is in his second year at the University of Richmond.
Q. How do you unwind/have fun? Any hobbies/hidden talents?
I enjoy restoring my classic Alfa Romeo Spider.
