Gina Wills Named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Field Hockey Coach of the Year Eighth-year head coach garners top conference honor for the fourth time.
Gina Wills, head coach of field hockey at Washington and Lee University, was selected as the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Coach of the Year in voting conducted by the league’s coaches.
Wills led the Generals to a 17-3 overall record, a 7-1 regular season conference record and a national ranking as high as No. 10 during the 2022 campaign. W&L earned the top seeding for the conference tournament and won its second straight ODAC championship (fourth overall) with a 1-0 win over 19th-ranked Roanoke in the title match on Nov. 5. The Blue & White would go on to win its opening game in the NCAA Tournament before falling to eighth-ranked Williams (3-0) on Nov. 12.
A four-time ODAC Coach of the Year honoree, Wills has compiled a 100-43 (.699) overall record in her eight seasons with the Generals. She also coached at DePauw University for eight seasons, and she claims a 221-83 (.727) career record over 16 seasons.
Wills has been a member of the W&L faculty since 2015. She earned a B.A. in English from Centre College in 2004.
