Meet a Colleague: Adrienne Jones Adrienne Jones is the DeLaney Center postdoctoral fellow.
Q. How long have you worked at W&L?
I started working at W&L in July 2024.
Q. What is your favorite course to teach, and why?
I love teaching qualitative methods! In this course, there are so many fun ways to incorporate activities that help students understand class concepts. One of my favorite activities involves playing with Legos to assist students as they are learning to organize and code qualitative data!
Q. What do you like most about working at W&L?
I love that I have the flexibility to research (and teach about) the topics in which I am most interested!
Q. Where is your favorite location on the W&L campus?
Leyburn Library. Libraries are always my first stop in any new city I move to.
Q. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
I love a good nap.
Q. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Goldston, a small and rural town in North Carolina.
Q. Who inspired you to teach? What about them inspired you?
One of my first academic mentors, Liz Ananat. I loved the way Liz taught – she was confident, funny and such a good communicator. I wanted to show up in my classroom the same way.
Q. What is the most adventurous thing that you have ever done?
Probably dismounting a camel, lol.
Q. What book are you reading now?
“Mexican Gothic” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
Q. What music are you listening to these days?
The Jackson 5. Specifically, “Blame it on the Boogie.”
Q. What is the website you visit most often and why?
People.com. I love pop culture and enjoy staying on top of the latest happenings.
Q. If you could have coffee with one person, who would it be and why?
Toni Morrison, hands down. She’s written some of my favorite books – I would sit and listen to anything she had to say.
Q. If you could live anywhere, where would you build your dream home?
Bermuda.
Q. If they made a movie about your life, who would play you?
Keke Palmer.
Q. What is your desert island food?
Tuna salad.
Q. Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
I was a band kid from fifth grade until my first year of college!
Q. What is your secret talent?
Parallel parking!
