
Meet a Colleague: Lisa D’Amelio Lisa D'Amelio serves as the associate director of Lifelong Learning.
Q. How long have you worked at W&L?
A little more than seven years.
Q. What do you like most about working at W&L?
Being part of an academic community with all of the perks that brings — public lectures, music and theater performances, art exhibits and all of the other cultural events that happen right here on campus.
Q. Where is your favorite location on the W&L campus?
The pavilion on the back campus. It’s got amazing views and just happens to be walking distance from my house.
Q. Where did you grow up?
Medford Lakes, New Jersey — an old resort town from the 1930s.
Q. What advice do you have for students?
Travel abroad and learn about different cultures. It will change you.
Q. What is the most adventurous thing that you have ever done?
Swimming next to a whale shark was pretty cool!
Q. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
Enjoying a slow morning at home with a cup of coffee and a good book. That and a bagel with cream cheese!
Q. If you could live anywhere, where would you build your dream home?
I would build in a small beach town in North or South Carolina.
Q. Who most inspires you?
Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. She speaks truth to power.
Q. What book are you reading now?
“Lincoln in the Bardo” by George Saunders — it’s come highly recommended by a number of friends.
Q. What music are you listening to these days?
Mt. Joy, The Lumineers, Slightly Stoopid, Sam Burchfield, Tyler Childers and Vance Joy.
Q. What is your favorite film (movie) of all time?
“Don’t Look Up.”
Q. What is the website you visit most often and why?
I’m embarrassed to say this, but probably Amazon — ugh.
Q. If they made a movie about your life, who would play you?
People sometimes tell me that I remind them of Kyra Sedgwick — I think it’s the hair.
Q. If you could have coffee with one person, who would it be and why?
I’d choose my daughters. I love spending time with them.
Q. What is your desert island food?
Nachos.
Q. Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
I was named “Class Dreamer” in high school.
Q. What is your secret talent?
I’m a baby whisperer.
