Meet a Colleague: Matt Phillips Matt Phillips serves as an assistant athletic trainer.
Q. How long have you worked at W&L?
This year will be my 17th at Washington and Lee.
Q. What do you like most about working at W&L?
I really like the family atmosphere.
Q. Where is your favorite location on the W&L campus?
I wouldn’t say I have one favorite location. I spend most of my time in one of the training rooms.
Q. Where did you grow up?
I grew up just over the mountain in Forest, Virginia (near Lynchburg).
Q. What advice do you have for students (or parents)?
My advice to the students would be to be yourself, and enjoy the time you have at college.
Q. What is the most adventurous thing that you have ever done?
I’m not sure how adventurous this is, but I have been on three cruises in my lifetime.
Q. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
I enjoying playing golf and spending time with my family.
Q. If you could live anywhere, where would you build your dream home?
I would build my dream home on Lake Tahoe.
Q. Who most inspires you?
I am most inspired by my wife Kimberly.
Q. What book are you reading now?
I am reading “Young Sherlock Homes.”
Q. What music are you listening to these days?
Anything country or if my son Cole is in the car, we listen to Disney Radio.
Q. What is your favorite film (movie) of all time?
My favorite film is “Radio.”
Q. What is the website you visit most often and why?
I like to visit ESPN for my daily sports updates.
Q. If you could have coffee with one person (living or deceased), who would it be and why?
I don’t drink coffee!
Q. What is your desert island food?
Popcorn – any flavor!
Q. What is your secret talent?
I am an unbelievable Mario Kart player on the N64 gaming system!
