Meet a Colleague: Paula Fritz Paula Fritz serves as producing stage manager for the Theater, Dance and Film Studies Department.
Q. How long have you worked at W&L?
This is my fourth year working at W&L.
Q. What is the favorite aspect of your job at W&L?
Working with and supporting our students — they’re the reason we do what we do!
Q. If you chose a different path, what other career would you have?
Historic preservation and culture resource management.
Q. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Snyder, Texas.
Q. What was your favorite subject in school?
I would say history, by far.
Q. What three words describe you best?
Intelligent, collaborative and lighthearted.
Q. Name one person from history you would like to spend a day with and why.
Louis Sullivan — he was a key architect in the Chicago School of Architecture and is widely regarded as the “father of the skyscraper.” He was Frank Lloyd Wright’s mentor and had a massive impact on the field of architecture and design. He was a true visionary.
Q. Who is the most famous person you have met and where did you meet them?
I would probably say Julia Roberts. She was in my hometown, of all places, to be in a film for a mutual friend.
Q. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Slow drivers and walkers.
Q. What do you like to do away from work?
I like to knit, crochet and watch football!
Q. What is your least favorite chore at home?
Laundry.
Q. What is your favorite family holiday tradition?
Christmas lunch and gift swap at Grandma’s house — it’s the one time a year I get to see my entire family. And the food is always good!
Q. What is the most adventurous thing that you have ever done?
When I decided to move from Texas, I closed my eyes and picked Lynchburg, Virginia off a map and moved there without having been before and not knowing anyone. It seems to have worked out pretty well.
Q. What is your all-time favorite food or food dish?
It’s kind of lame, but I will never, ever turn down a burger and fries.
Q. Where would you choose to build your dream home?
In the mountains of North Carolina — Linville/Blowing Rock area.
Q. What is your all-time favorite book?
“Song of Spiderman.” The book is about the Spiderman musical on Broadway and it’s WILD!
Q. If you could choose one series to binge-watch, what would it be?
“Modern Family.”
Q. What is your all-time favorite movie?
“Pride and Prejudice” (2005) or “Remember the Titans.”
Q. What song or artist could you play on repeat?
Matt Wertz or The Civil Wars
Q. Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
I am an enormous nerd about military planes.
