Meet Chloe Sin ’26L: Law Ambassador Chloe Sin shares her passion for law school with prospective students as a student ambassador for the Law Admissions office.
Chloe Sin ’26L was born in South Korea and immigrated to the United States when she was three. She spent most of her childhood in Fairfax County, Virginia before attending Northeastern University in Boston for her undergraduate degree. Her decision to pursue a legal education first blossomed when she attended Virginia’s Governor’s School Program at Radford University during her junior year of high school and took a course on Wrongful Convictions. The contents of the course made her question the fundamental values of justice that our law is supposed to uphold, and the potential role she could take in ensuring the law would actually reach and protect all persons regardless of race, class, or gender. During her first summer at W&L, Chloe worked for Cape Fear Family Law and served as a judicial intern at the Chesapeake Circuit Court.
Why did you choose W&L Law?
I initially became familiar with W&L Law because a friend of mine told me his favorite professor was from W&L and that the professor would often rave about the school and its community. This started my research into the school, and I soon found that this was a common occurrence – anyone who had ever crossed paths with W&L had nothing but great things to say! A final tour with the admissions office solidified my decision.
Share an experience, class, professor/staff member that has had an impact on your time as a law student.
I have many favorite memories from my time so far at W&L, but I have one memory that really encompasses my experience at W&L. During my first semester of law school, I had Professor David Eggert as my Civil Procedure professor. Upon reading his syllabus, I was pleasantly surprised to find that he wanted to invite our entire class out to a dinner at his cabin so that we could really get to know him and one another! Considering how new everything and everyone at law school was for me back then, this was a memory that truly made me realize I came to the right place and that I would not have to worry about integrating into the community here at W&L.
Why did you choose to be a Law Ambassador—what are some responsibilities you have in this role?
I chose to be a Law Ambassador for two reasons. One is a more general reason – I love interacting with people and providing tours seemed like a great opportunity where I could socialize while helping out prospective students simultaneously. The second reason is because I had such a great impression from my tour back when I was a prospective student! I had some worries about coming down to Lexington, having mostly spent my life in cities or huge suburban areas, but my tour really put those fears at ease and made me confident in my decision to come to W&L. Thank you Ben Halligan ‘23L, my Law Ambassador tour guide!
As a Law Ambassador, my main responsibility is to give tours to visitors and prospective students. To prepare myself for the role, I attend monthly informational meetings where different administrative and faculty members teach all Law Ambassadors important aspects of life and academics at W&L Law. We also assist with Open Houses, which are coming up in March, and some other admissions-related events when asked.
What do you enjoy about working with the Admissions Office and meeting prospective law students
Working with the Admissions Office has provided me with another set of supporters when I just need to talk to someone or take some time to wind down. Meeting prospective law students has been great because it helps me remember the passion I had back when I applied for law school, and I get the privilege of getting to know some of the people that will make up our community in the following year! I’ve also surprisingly learned some new things through the monthly informational meetings that are beneficial to myself!
Anything you are looking forward to in this spring and your rising 3L summer?
I look forward to finishing the Note writing process for my journal and figuring out my plans for my last year of law school! Solidifying the scope of my career path feels very daunting and exciting at the same time.
