SEAL to Sponsor Second Annual Washington and Lee Campus-Wide Garage Sale Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to sell unwanted items and donate any unsold items to benefit local nonprofit organizations.
The Student Environmental Action League (SEAL) will host a campus-wide garage sale on Tuesday, May 21 from 1-5 p.m. on Cannan Green. Purchases will be limited to Washington and Lee community members and any unsold clothing items will be donated to Goodwill, while unsold furniture will be donated to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.
“The garage sale provides a profitable alternative to throwing away your old stuff at the end of the year,” said Grace Rustay ‘27, incoming SEAL president. “The ecosystem at W&L isn’t limited to the natural world. Events like the garage sale promote greener, more sustainable interactions between students and the broader environment here on campus.”
The garage sale is free for W&L community members to browse and shop, and free tacos will be provided for the duration of the event by the Taqueria Tres Veces Feliz food truck courtesy of SEAL, the Office of Sustainability, Student Activities and the Environmental Studies program.
Sellers will be charged a $5 fee to reserve their Canaan Green location and will retain 100% of the profits from their sales. Any unsettled funds will be donated to Boxerwood, a nonprofit that provides award-winning environmental education programs to the local community.
Members of the W&L community wishing to sell items at the garage sale are required to complete the sign-up form by Tuesday, May 14. Students who are currently abroad may still participate by completing the form. If planning to sell as part of a group, please make sure to include the names of each seller.
