Washington and Lee Presents Faculty Recital on Oct. 31 "The Poet's Echo: A Gothic Romance” is scheduled for Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to come in costume for the hour-long program.
Washington and Lee University will present a faculty recital on Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Concert Hall.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, is titled “The Poet’s Echo: A Gothic Romance.” The program will feature W&L music lecturers Scott Williamson (tenor) and Anna Billias (piano). Audience members are encouraged to come in costume for the hour-long program, which will be performed without intermission. Masks are required, and the performance will also be streamed online at livestream.com/wlu.
“This program will sweep the listener away into Halloween mode, allowing them to bathe in the spirit of fantastic and magical elements,” Billias said.
The performance will share musical theater favorites by composers Gershwin, Sondheim and Rupert Holmes. W&L music lecturer Julia Goudimova will join the duo on cello to conclude the program with Richard Strauss’s beloved song “Allerseelen” (All Souls’ Day).
“The program is eclectic by design to showcase a variety of responses to romantic and gothic themes,” Williamson said.
