The documentary follows individual journeys to the city, but also showcases a community built on resilience and hope.

Seth Michelson, who is also head of the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program at W&L, is interviewed throughout the film, serving as a faculty expert on immigration.

“Sometime, Somewhere” premiered in 2023 at the Virginia Film Festival in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the film won Preve the prestigious Gerland L. Baliles Founders Award. The film has also won multiple national and international awards, including Best Documentary from the LatinUy Film Festival in Punta del Este, Uruguay, and Best Documentary from the Iberoamerican Film Festival Miami.

The screening is sponsored by the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the Department of Romance Languages, the Department of History, the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program and the Dean’s Office.
