The concert, which is free and open to the public, does not require tickets, but attendees are required to wear masks. The performance will be streamed live online at livestream.com/wlu/marlbrook-music-of-spain.
The Marlbrook Chamber Players consist of W&L’s Jaime McArdle on violin, Julia Goudimova on cello, Megan Mason on viola and Anna Billias on piano.
This all-women ensemble will bring the country of Spain to Lexington through the music of composers Enrique Granados, Joaquín Turina, Manuel de Falla, Pablo de Sarasate and Joaquín Nin.
Granados’ piece features the “Piano Quintet in G Minor, Op. 49” with guest violinist Jakob Hofer. Hofer is an assistant professor of music and the orchestra director for Southern Virginia University.
Other works include Turina’s delightful “Quartet for Piano and Strings in A minor, Op. 67,” and de Falla’s “Spanish Suite” for cello and piano featuring Goudimova and Billias.
The program will also include “Two Spanish Pieces” for viola and piano by the Cuban composer Nin featuring Mason and Billias.
