The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s soccer teams were both recipients of the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award announced on Oct. 5. The honor was given to those squads whose student-athletes averaged a 3.0 or higher for the 2016-17 academic year.
A total of 813 teams were on the 2016 list, which included Division I, II and III programs. Of these schools, W&L was one of only 195 to have both its men’s and women’s programs receive the award.
The women’s team posted an overall GPA of 3.75, putting them in a tie for third out of the 531 women’s teams that made the list. This is the 15th year in a row the women were recognized.
The men accumulated an overall GPA of 3.66, which put them in second out of the 282 men’s teams that made the list. This is the 11th time that the men’s team has earned this honor.
