W&L to Host ‘Slices of Research’ Program at Salerno Wood Fired Pizza & Taphouse Newly promoted faculty members will present their research in a PechaKucha format on Jan. 28.
Washington and Lee University’s Office of the Provost is pleased to present the “Slices of Research” program at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Salerno Wood Fired Pizza & Taphouse in Lexington.
The event will feature research and creative works presented by recently promoted faculty with the intent of bringing faculty and staff together in a social space intended to strengthen W&L’s intellectual and cultural community. The program’s first hour will be devoted to socializing, with presentations beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Nine faculty members will present the research in a stimulating PechaKucha storytelling format, featuring 20 slides or images displayed for 20 seconds apiece. Among those presenting are:
- Brian Alexander, associate professor of politics
- Aliaa Bassiouny, professor of finance
- Cory Colbert, associate professor of mathematics
- Melissa Kerin, professor of art history and director of the Roger Mudd Center for Ethics
- Paula Kiser, associate professor and digital scholarship librarian
- Liz Matthews, associate professor of computer science
- Marcos Perez, associate professor of sociology
- Stephanie Sandberg, associate professor of theater
- Fiona Watson, professor of biology
W&L will cover the cost of pizza and the first drink for faculty and staff. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance and inquiries should be placed to Rissie Murphy, manager of provost office operations.
