W&L Welcomes New Trustee Nathan Urquhart Urquhart ’01 joined the W&L Board of Trustees on Feb. 10.
Nathan Urquhart, a 2001 graduate of Washington and Lee University, was sworn in as a trustee of his alma mater on Feb. 10, in Lexington, Virginia.
Urquhart graduated summa cum laude from W&L with a Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance and is president of Coatue Management, a leading global technology investment platform.
Urquhart began his career in 2001 at J.P. Morgan as a corporate finance analyst before moving to UBS in the Private Equity Funds Group, where he spent four years raising capital for several buyouts, credit and infrastructure funds. He then worked at Och-Ziff Capital Management (now Sculptor Capital Management) for 11 years, concluding his tenure as executive managing director and co-head of Global Investor Relations.
In 2019, Urquhart joined The Carlyle Group, serving as partner and global head of Investor Relations, and as a member of Carlyle’s Leadership and Operating and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committees. In November 2022, he was named president at Coatue Management, where he is responsible for broad operational leadership, overseeing investor relations and fundraising efforts, and contributing to the firm’s strategic growth.
As a student, Urquhart was a founding member of the Washington and Lee Student Consulting Group, which provides pro bono consulting services to businesses and not-for-profit community organizations. He was also chair of the Student Recruitment Committee, a member of the Contact Committee and a resident adviser. His past and current volunteer work at the university includes service on the Williams School Advisory Board and on the Class of 2001 Reunion Committee. He will serve on the Board’s Investment and Development and External Relations committees.
Urquhart resides in New York with his partner, Ira Rogers.
