Washington and Lee University’s Contact Committee is pleased to host political commentator, author and award-winning blogger Meghan McCain to campus for Parents and Family Weekend on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in the University Chapel.
The event is free and open to the W&L community, and tickets are required. Tickets are available online here.
McCain is the host of the podcast “Citizen McCain,” where she covers trending news and celebrity gossip, featuring guests from diverse backgrounds and viewpoints. As the daughter of the late Senator John McCain, she has been steeped in the political arena since childhood and is often said to have the McCain “maverick gene” because she is unafraid to speak her mind. McCain delivers thought-provoking and critical analyses of the media, politics and current events; during her talk on Oct. 3, she will discuss the state of politics in the United States against the backdrop of the 2024 presidential election.
McCain is a former co-host of ABC’s television program The View, which she joined in October 2017. While on The View, the show earned two day-time Emmy nominations for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host. McCain previously co-hosted the afternoon talk program “Outnumbered” on the Fox News Channel and Pivot TV’s late-night news program “TakePart Live.” She also served as the creator, executive producer and host of the docuseries “Raising McCain,” which aired on Pivot. A New York Times best-selling author, McCain’s most recent book, “Bad Republican: A Memoir,” was published in 2022 and explores her relationship with the Republican Party.
McCain received her bachelor’s degree in art history from Columbia University. She completed internships at Newsweek and Saturday Night Live before joining her father’s 2008 presidential campaign. While on the campaign trail, McCain launched the blog “McCain Blogette,” which went on to win the Golden Dot Award for Best Blog and two Pollie Awards from the Association of Political and Public Affairs Professionals. She then burst onto the national media scene as a columnist for The Daily Beast and an MSNBC contributor.
