On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, work by economics professor Martin Davies and his co-author Marcel Schroder, titled The Path to Kina Convertibility: Survey and Analysis of Papua New Guinea’s Foreign Exchange Market was presented to the Regional Cooperation and Integration Department at the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
This paper examines recent conditions in Papua New Guinea’s foreign exchange market and includes new theoretical modeling on how to deal with a backlog of foreign exchange orders when there has been a sustained period of foreign exchange rationing, as has been the case in Papua New Guinea since 2015. This work, which has been published as an ADB working paper, was recently submitted to the Asia & the Pacific Policy Studies journal.
