W&L’s Institutional History Museum and Galleries to Present on University Chapel Renovation Project The Oct. 2 event will provide an overview of the planned gallery update and preservation repairs to University Chapel.

Washington and Lee University’s Institutional History Museum and Galleries (IHMG) will host a public presentation, titled “Progress in Progress: Renovating the University Chapel,” at 6 p.m. on Oct. 2 in the University Chapel. Individuals must RSVP to attend. The event will be followed by a reception for the campus community at 7 p.m. in Morris House.

“Progress in Progress” will feature a panel presentation about the University Chapel’s upcoming renovation project, which includes updates to the large gallery on the lower level, a modernization of the building’s HVAC system and an expansion of the fire and life safety system. The chapel will be closed to the public beginning Oct. 4 and will remain closed until spring 2026.

Panelists include Matt Davis, director of the Institutional History Museum and Galleries; Amelia Gallo, IHMG curator of education and public engagement; Rachel Gregor, IHMG curator of collections and exhibitions; and Brian Connolly, project manager of capital projects at W&L.

W&L’s Institutional History Museum and Galleries include the University Chapel and Galleries, the Washington Hall Galleries and the forthcoming Institutional History Museum. The IHMG stewards a growing collection reflective of the full and rich history of the university, its people, traditions and impact throughout the nation’s history.
