W&L’s Marlbrook Chamber Players Present ‘Power and Passion of the Classical Three B’s’ The virtual performance will take place via livestream on Nov. 1 at 3 p.m.
The W&L Marlbrook Chamber Players will present works of the mighty three B’s – composers Bach, Beethoven and Brahms – in a program entitled “Power and Passion of the Classical Three B’s,” via livestream on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m.
The show is free and open to the public to view online at https://livestream.com/wlu.
To create a quartet setting, the group welcomes two new members, lecturers in music Megan Mason on viola and Anna Billias on piano, while retaining violinist Jaime McArdle and Julia Goudimova on cello.
Works will include Bach’s solo “Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major.” Each string member will play two of the movements as arranged for their instrument, opening the first two movements as originally scored with Goudimova on cello, a transcription for violin by McArdle, then the traditionally performed transcription to viola with Mason.
The program will continue by featuring Billias with the famous first movement of the “Moonlight Sonata” by Beethoven and concluding with Brahms’ “Piano Quartet No. 3 in C Minor, Op. 60.”
As the performance continues, the works will transition from baroque to romantic with the concert shifting from the lighter G Major Bach suite, moving into the Beethoven piece’s melancholy mood, and ending with the drama and grand scope of chamber music from Brahms.
