Washington and Lee University’s Department of Music presents Boston-based duo Transient Canvas in concert on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. in Wilson Concert Hall in the Lenfest Center for the Arts. The performance is part of the SonoKlect Series, a program dedicated to bringing modern music to local audiences in Lexington. A reception in Lykes atrium will follow the performance.
The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
Featuring bass clarinetist Amy Advocat and marimbist Matt Sharrock, Transient Canvas has garnered national attention for its bold, innovative sound and fearless approach to contemporary chamber music. Since its founding in 2011, the duo has commissioned and premiered dozens of new works and released multiple recordings highlighting the rich sonic possibilities of bass clarinet and marimba. Their performances are noted for clarity, intensity and a strong sense of musical dialogue.
The Feb. 14 program will include a piece written for the duo by local composer and SonoKlect Series director Terry Vosbein, who is also a professor of music at W&L. The composition, “Lament,” reflects the duo’s expressive range and close collaborative relationship with living composers.
