English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) invites the community to a holiday gathering on Dec. 5 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the basement of Grace Episcopal Church. Donations accepted at the event will benefit Programa SOL, a three-week summer program for local bilingual youth that focuses on language and literacy development.

ESOL is a student-led community service organization. Established at W&L in 2001, the group provides English classes, tutoring, and interpretation and translation services, and often collaborates on event-planning with and within the Latinx community in the Rockbridge area. Programa SOL, offered to area elementary school students for the first time during the summer of 2022, is ESOL’s latest community collaboration.

Attendees are welcome to bring a dish to the event to share with the community if they wish to do so, although it is not a requirement to attend. There will also be children’s activities such as a create-your-own ornament station and games. Prizes will be awarded for games and gifts will be provided for all children that attend the event.
