Allie Case, Assistant Director of Career Development-STEM — Career and Professional Development

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
I graduated from W&L in 2020 as a double major in biology and environmental studies. I then attended George Mason University where I obtained a Master of Science in conservation science and policy. I’ve been a bit all over the map for my research — I’ve worked at the St. Louis Zoo in Missouri, SeaWorld in San Diego and the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Although I grew up in Minnesota, I am very excited to be back in Virginia!

Q. How do you unwind or have fun? Any hobbies or hidden talents?
For better or for worse I am a die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan. I fill my fall NFL Sundays with cooking and knitting fun gifts for friends and family.

Q. Best advice anyone has ever given you?
“There’s no limit to what you can do for a career!” Molly Steele helped fuel my niche career passions early on and it’s a major part of the reason I’m excited to be back at W&L to help students find that same passion.

Clay Denstorff, Assistant Football Coach — Athletics

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
I played football and baseball for Perrysburg High School, located in Ohio. I then went to Denison University where I played football for five seasons and was a two-time team captain. I enjoy golfing and watching sports in my free time. My dad played football at Western Kentucky University and my mom is in the Toledo University Hall of Fame for tennis. We have a sports orientated family!

Q. Best advice anyone has ever given you?
The best advice I have ever received is “Who you are and how you treat others, is more important than what you do.”

Q. How do you unwind or have fun? Any hobbies or hidden talents?
I like to have fun by playing golf and watching sports, specifically football, golf and hockey.

Nina-Simone Edwards, Technology and Research Librarian – The Law School

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
After I graduated from Georgetown University Law Center, I worked as a postdoc for two years while I attended classes for my master’s in library and information science. I love to read and write (shocker), and I have a cat who’s a bit too sassy. Fun fact: I was not named after the wonderful jazz singer/songwriter/pianist/civil rights activist.

Q. How do you unwind or have fun? Any hobbies or hidden talents?
I don’t think it’s a hidden talent, but I play piano (sometimes, but I mostly teach!) and I was in a church band for five years. I love watching K-dramas, reading a good book and finding new hobbies. I’m also trying to find a boxing gym here!

Q. Anything in particular that you are looking forward to here at W&L?
Starting my career as a law librarian.

Kerry-Ann Gordon, Assistant Director of Dining Services – Catering

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
I love being in nature or by the beach and listening to the sounds. The hobbies I enjoy are traveling, cooking and gardening.

Q. How do you unwind or have fun? Any hobbies or hidden talents?
I like to travel and just being with my family.

Q. Best advice anyone has ever given you?
“You’re as good as any and better than many.” — My high school principal.

May Myat Moe, Laboratory Technician, Chief Hygiene Officer – The College

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
I have a Ph.D. in chemistry from The City University of New York Graduate Center. My background in analytical chemistry, instrumentation and laboratory operations. Along with my academic and research experiences, this has allowed me to develop a strong foundation in laboratory management, safety practices and maintaining well-organized laboratory environments. These are skills that I look forward to applying in support of the department’s goals.

Q. How do you unwind or have fun? Any hobbies or hidden talents?
I enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring different activities in nature. Outdoor activities are one of my favorite ways to relax and recharge, and I enjoy sharing these experiences with my family.

Q. Any favorite activities you’d like to participate in or places you’d like to visit locally?
Since I enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors, I am especially excited to explore the mountains, trails and outdoor spaces around Lexington and the surrounding region. I also look forward to discovering local restaurants, community events and the unique character of the area.

Michelle Wolfkill, Manager of Leave and Accommodations – Human Resources

Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a strategic human capital professional with more than 14 years of experience supporting the Department of Defense through workforce programs, employee relations, policy interpretation, compliance and organizational leadership. I’m passionate about helping organizations create positive employee experiences while ensuring fair, consistent, and compliant workplace practices. Originally from Maryland, I relocated to Lexington with my husband in search of a slower pace of life and a strong sense of community. We share our home with three dogs and enjoy visits from our three adult children. Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, cooking, hiking, and am an active member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Lexington chapter.

Q. How do you unwind or have fun? Any hobbies or hidden talents?
One of my favorite ways to unwind is cooking. I love preparing meals and sharing them with family and friends. At the end of a busy day, you’ll often find me cooking dinner, enjoying a glass of wine, and relaxing on our deck while taking in the mountain views. It’s the perfect way for me to recharge and appreciate the slower pace of life we’ve found in Lexington.

Q. Anything in particular you are looking forward to at W&L?
I’m looking forward to becoming part of a community where I can build relationships and make a meaningful impact. Throughout my career, I’ve enjoyed helping employees and leaders navigate complex situations, and I appreciate that this role allows me to support people during some of the most important moments in their careers. I’m also excited about the collaborative culture at Washington and Lee. During the interview process, it was clear that people genuinely care about one another and work together to find the best solutions. That’s the kind of environment where I do my best work. Finally, I’m looking for a place where I can put down roots and contribute over the long term. My husband and I chose to make Lexington our home because we love the community, and I see this opportunity as a chance to become part of an organization where I can continue to grow while making a positive difference for employees and the university.
