Kyle McCoil Named Chair of the 2026 Student Organization Misconduct Institute The associate dean of student affairs will facilitate discussions surrounding misconduct in higher education.

Kyle McCoil, associate dean of student affairs at Washington and Lee University, was recently named chair of the 2026 Student Organization Misconduct Institute (SOMI). The institute will take place Oct. 26-28 in Washington, D.C.

SOMI is designed for campus-based conduct practitioners, sorority and fraternity headquarters staff, student organization advisers and organizational stakeholders who want to build their knowledge and skills in navigating student organization misconduct and behavior change-focused accountability approaches. The institute’s content will cover the entire accountability process, including initial intake and review, investigations, resolution options and legislative impacts such as the Stop Campus Hazing Act. Participants will discuss effective strategies for building relationships with campus organizations and explore the spectrum of hazing and approaches to hazing prevention and reduction.

SOMI is hosted by the Association for Student Conduct Administration, which administers conduct standards for students of higher education and seeks to educate, develop and support student-centered conduct professionals.

McCoil has been a member of the W&L’s administration since 2021. Before W&L, he served as the assistant director of fraternity and sorority life at the College of Charleston and as coordinator of first-year experience at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. McCoil earned a Bachelor of Science in public health from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Arts in higher education administration from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in higher education student affairs from Liberty University.
