What are your summer plans?
This summer, I’ll be diving into a research project on artificial intelligence — focusing on data centers, language models and the rapidly evolving field of prompting. With support from W&L alumnus Blair Garrou ’94 and funding from a Connolly Entrepreneurship Society grant, I’ll be exploring how these technologies are transforming the job market for young adults. By the end of the project, I hope to compile my findings into a book that captures both the challenges and opportunities of this technological shift.
Have you discovered a course or topic that you didn’t expect to study when you first came to W&L?
When I first came to W&L, I was certain I’d pursue a major within the Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics. But while completing my general education requirements, I unexpectedly discovered a deep passion for English. Professors such as Michael Berlin and Kary Smout opened my eyes to how studying English isn’t just about becoming a better writer — it’s about learning how to think critically, creatively and empathetically. As I’ve continued to take more English courses, I’ve come to truly value the way my professors challenge and expand my ways of thinking. I’m incredibly grateful for everything the English Department has taught me so far, and I’m excited to continue growing — not just as a student, but as a thinker.
Where is your “home” on campus?
I feel most at home on the Woods Creek Trail. One of my favorite hobbies is taking walks and reflecting in nature, and this trail has become my go-to spot for clearing my head and recharging. I’m really grateful for all the peaceful green spaces on campus — they make W&L feel like home in the best way.
What has been your most impactful experience at W&L, either on or off-campus?
One of the most impactful experiences I’ve had at W&L has been immersing myself in a community shaped by the Honor System. It’s not just a set of rules — it’s a shared commitment that influences how we treat each other, how we learn and how we grow. Being surrounded by peers who hold themselves to such high standards of integrity has inspired me to do the same, both academically and personally. This culture of trust and accountability has completely reframed how I think about leadership and the kind of workplace I want to be part of after graduation. As I’ve started speaking with alumni and exploring career paths, I find myself constantly asking about company culture. My experience at W&L has shown me the value of surrounding myself with people who challenge and support me to be the best version of myself — and that’s something I now actively seek in every opportunity moving forward.
