Washington and Lee University’s Mock Convention will host a fundraising auction during Parents and Family Weekend 2023. The auction will take place on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 5-7 p.m. in Evans Hall. Participants will have the opportunity to bid on exclusive events such as a trip to the Piedmont region of Italy, a Monday Night Football experience with Troy Aikman or a Kentucky horse racing experience. A full list of auction items is available in an auction lookbook on Mock Con’s website, www.mockconvention.com.

In addition to the opportunity to bid on once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, Mock Convention is thrilled to welcome Karl Rove, former Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff to President George W. Bush, who will speak at the event. While serving in the Bush Administration, Rove oversaw the Offices of Strategic Initiatives, Political Affairs, Public Liaison, and Intergovernmental Affairs and was Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, coordinating the White House policy-making process. Rove was also a crucial contributor to President Bush’s 2000 and 2004 presidential campaign victories.

Tickets to the auction are being sold by the table and the cost is $500 per table. Each table seats between seven and eight people. There will be a limited number of individual tickets available for $50 per person. To purchase a ticket, email Libby Kerr, Mock Con’s director of auction and sales, at kerrl24@mail.wlu.edu.

W&L’s Mock Con is a mock presidential nominating convention held every four years by the students of W&L, with the goal of predicting whom the party out of power will nominate to run for president of the United States. Mock Con is one of W&L’s oldest traditions, with a 75% accuracy rate since its first convention in 1908. The committee’s goal is to promote civic activity and political engagement within the W&L community and beyond, and by the time of the convention, 95% of the student body will be involved with Mock Con in some capacity. The 28th W&L Mock Convention will be held Feb. 9-11, 2024.
