The Department of Music at Washington and Lee University presents “An Afternoon of Elegance and Passion,” a performance by the Marlbrook Chamber Players, at 3 p.m. on Nov. 2 in Wilson Concert Hall in the Lenfest Center for the Arts.
The performance is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
The Marlbrook Chamber Players is an all-women ensemble based in southern Virginia, and their performances are highly regarded for their variety, depth and richness of emotion. The ensemble includes Anna Billias on piano, Jaime McArdle on violin and Julia Goudimova on cello; all three members are also lecturers in the Department of Music at W&L. For their Nov. 2 performance, the Marlbrook Chamber Players will be joined by Megan Mason on the viola and Jakob Hofer on the violin; Mason and Hofer are faculty members in the music departments of W&L and Southern Virginia University.
The Nov. 2 program will feature Gabriel Fauré’s “Piano Quartet No. 1,” a lyrical work blending Romantic expressiveness with French refinement, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “String Trio Serenade Op. 8,” an elegant masterpiece, shimmering with playful pizzicato on the string instruments and overall charm.
Whether you are a longtime devotee of chamber music or are new to the genre, this concert promises an unforgettable evening of emotion and virtuosity.
