The Lenfest Center for the Arts at Washington and Lee University presents “Detroit’s queen of the blues,” Thornetta Davis, and her band on March 10 at 8 p.m. in the Wilson Concert Hall.

Davis is an international singer, songwriter and recording artist and her music is rooted in the traditions of blues and vintage R&B. A nine-time National Blues Music Awards nominee, she was awarded the “Living Lifetime Achievement Award” by the Detroit Blues Society in 2009, earned a star on the Canada South Blues Museum’s walk of fame in 2012 and received the French La Academie du Jazz Award for best blues album in 2017.

Davis has been praised for the way she “conveys intense emotion” and “tells compelling stories [with] inspirational vocals,” and New York Music Daily described her and her band as a “blast of fresh air.” Her band has opened for numerous blues legends over the years, including B.B. King, Ray Charles, Etta James, KoKo Taylor, Johnny Johnson, and Bonnie Raitt. The March 10 concert will feature Davis on vocals, guitarist Carlton Washington, Phillip J. Hale on keys, bassist Chuck Bartels, and David Maraccio and James Anderson on drums and percussion.
