W&L Law Welcomes New Faculty Member Randle Pollard
Tax law expert Randle Pollard has joined the W&L Law faculty as the Rochelle and Thomas McN. Millhiser ‘81L Professor of Practice. Pollard comes to W&L Law from the Washington, D.C. firm of Ogletree Deakins, where he is Of Counsel and a member of the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation group.
The Millhiser Professorship of Practice supports a distinguished professor of practice who teaches in the experiential curriculum. The Professorship was created through the generosity of Shelly and Tom Millhiser ‘81L of Delray Beach, Florida and the McGue Millhiser Family Trust.
At W&L Law, Pollard will teach a variety of tax courses including Federal Income Taxation of Individuals and the Tax Planning and Representation of Non-Profit Organizations Practicum. This class gives students an in-depth look at the creation, operation, and state/federal regulation of non-profit organizations through practice-based exercises.
Pollard has extensive academic experience. He previously taught at American University, Washington College of Law and as an assistant professor of business law and taxation at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, where he taught classes in the Master of Science in Accounting and Master of Science in Taxation programs. He also taught from 2009 to 2012 as an associate professor of law at Widener University Commonwealth School of Law.
In his law practice, Pollard focuses on employment tax matters at both the federal and state levels, the review of labor and tax laws governing qualified benefit plans, and advises client on the taxation of employee fringe benefits. He has over twenty years of tax law experience as in-house counsel and from prior positions within government and public accounting. He was a Tax Manager for KPMG LLP, Washington National Tax in Washington, D.C. Subsequently in Indianapolis, he served as Domestic Tax Counsel for Eli Lilly and Company and as Senior Counsel at the law firm Ice Miller LLP.
Pollard is a graduate of Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia where he earned a B.S. in Accounting, High Honors. He earned Juris Doctor and LL.M. degrees from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where he was Business Editor for the Journal of Law and Technology.
