The Lenfest Center at Washington and Lee University kicks off its new National Theatre Live series with a screening of “Prima Facie” on March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Stackhouse Theater in Elrod Commons.

The screening of “Prima Facie” is the next installment of the Lenfest Center’s Outreach & Engagement (O&E) Series. Tickets are required and available online or in person at the Lenfest Box Office.

“We are thrilled to be bringing National Theatre Live to W&L and the Lexington community,” said Jordan Peimer, director of the Lenfest Center. “This will allow us access to some of the most prominent actors in their most important roles without traveling hours to see them. Furthermore, it allows us here to participate in important global conversations raised by internationally well-known artists.”

W&L’s National Theatre Live series will feature screenings of three top British theater productions and is intended to connect university knowledge and art experiences on the W&L campus and beyond to the local community in a mutually beneficial partnership. Future screenings from the series include “Frankenstein” on April 7 and “Fleabag” on May 7.

Suzie Miller’s “Prima Facie” is a gripping one-woman play that takes the audience to the heart of where emotion and experience collide with the rules of the game. The production stars Jodie Comer in an Olivier- and Tony Award-winning performance as Tessa, a young, brilliant barrister who loves to win and has worked her way up from working-class origins to be at the top of her game – defending, cross-examining and winning. An unexpected turn of events forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and moral diverge in what WhatsOnStage calls an “unforgettable moment of theater.”

Directed by Justin Martin and filmed live during its limited run at the intimate Harold Pinter Theatre in London’s West End, the production has received 24 awards including Olivier, Tony, South Bank Show, WhatsOnStage, Evening Standard and Drama Desk recognitions.

Order your tickets online today or call the Lenfest Center box office at 540-458-8000 for ticket purchase information. Box office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is $20 for general admission and $8 for students.

The National Theatre Live performances are sponsored in part by the Class of 1964 Performing Arts Fund.
