Colin Looby ’26 will perform his senior voice recital on Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. in Wilson Concert Hall in the Lenfest Center for the Arts. Looby, a tenor, is a music major from Fredericksburg, Virginia.
The performance is free and open to the public and will be streamed online at https://go.wlu.edu/livestream.
Looby will perform selections across the history of vocal music, from the opera arias of George Handel and Giuseppe Verdi to tunes from Disney classics “The Lion King” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.” Recital highlights will include his performance of the rarely heard “Weihnachtslider” (Christmas Songs) Op. 8, by German composer Peter Cornelius, and of Gilbert & Sullivan’s famous “I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major General.” Looby will be accompanied by faculty pianist Anna Billias and W&L’s University Singers at various points in the recital.
Looby has studied music under the direction of Gregory Parker, professor of music, applied voice and world music at W&L, and has held several leadership positions within the Department of Music. He is the president of University Singers, the founder of the Washingtones (W&L’s first barbershop quartet), and, through W&L’s Choral Conducting Mentorship Program, has conducted Cantatrici and Glee Club since 2023.
Looby has been a music researcher through the Summer Research Scholars program for two years, and his most recent project, the composition “Maid of Culmore,” debuted at this year’s Fall Choral Concert. He is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honors Society and the Alpha Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa. Following graduation, Looby will pursue a doctorate in choral conducting and a career as a collegiate choir director.
