Barton Myers, the Class of 1960 Professor of Ethics and History at Washington and Lee University, was recently quoted in an America Magazine article titled “Private and religious groups are starting to pay reparations for slavery – but it’s nowhere near enough.”
In the article, Myers discusses U.S. General William Tecumseh Sherman’s role in addressing the growing humanitarian and refugee crisis in the South in 1865 as the Civil War was ending and freed slaves sought a new beginning.
