A Celebration of the Life of Anne Wilson W&L students and faculty, as well as members of the Rockbridge Ballet, will participate in the event.
Anne WilsonA celebration of the life of Anne Veronica Yeomans Wilson, the wife of former president of Washington and Lee University John Wilson (1983-1995), will be held on April 28 at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Concert Hall. All are invited. Anne Wilson died March 17, 2019 at the age of 84.
W&L students and faculty, as well as members of the Rockbridge Ballet, will participate in the event, and Professor Emeritus Harlan Beckley will give opening remarks.
As part of the program, vocal students Levi Lebsack ’21 and Caleb Pena ’21 will sing works by Franz Lehár and Juan Vert. Professor Gregory Parker, chair of the W&L Music Department, will perform two of the “Four Serious Songs, Op. 121” by Brahms. Faculty members Jaime McArdle, violinist, Julia Goudimova, cellist, and Timothy Gaylard, pianist, will play the second movement of Schubert’s “Piano Trio, Op. 99.”
Molly Phelan, a soprano and the granddaughter of Anne Wilson, will sing an aria from Mozart’s opera “Zaide,”and two dances will be performed by Brianna Cash, Carter Cook, Leila Granfield, and Margaret Hart—all members of the Rockbridge Ballet.
The program concludes with two choral works featuring the Washington and Lee University Singers: “Loch Lomond,” conducted by Morgan Luttig ’14, visiting choral director, and “Shenandoah,” conducted by Gordon Spice, emeritus professor of music and former chair of the Music Department.
A reception will follow in the atrium of Wilson Hall.
