Campus Kitchen at W&L Receives Donation from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation The donation will support the Campus Kitchen Backpack Program.
Campus Kitchen at Washington and Lee (CKWL) has received $1,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed local neighbors in their time of need. The Campus Kitchen will use the gift to purchase food for CKWL’s Backpack Program. The program aims to address the meal gap experienced by children on free and reduced lunch over the weekends when they do not have access to those meals.
“We at CKWL are grateful for the support of the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation,” said Ryan Brink, Campus Kitchen coordinator. “This contribution helps with the continuation of the Backpack Program during the summer months. The program distributes more than 850 packages of breakfast and lunch items each week during the school year, and the Campus Kitchen has continued sending backpacks this summer for only the second time since its creation.”
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across the company’s 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $15 million in grants.
