Kelsey Brown, Registered Dietician Nutritionist – Student Affairs
Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a registered dietitian nutritionist and certified diabetes care and education specialist. I’ve worked in the field of nutrition since 2012. Prior to becoming a dietitian, I served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa as a health and sanitation volunteer.
Q. Any favorite regional spots or activities that excite you?
I moved to Lexington in 2020 and have since been falling in love with this beautiful area of Virginia. There are too many favorite spots to list, but two places that I never have a bad time visiting are Natural Bridge State Park and Rockbridge Vineyard and Brewery.
Q. Anything in particular that you are looking forward to at W&L?
I recall during my college years needing the advice and guidance of a dietitian and thankfully having access to that. It truly changed the trajectory of my life for the better. I feel especially honored and grateful to offer that same level of care, encouragement and impact to the students of W&L.
Carolyn Kendall, Executive Assistant – Admissions
Q. Tell us a little about yourself.
My husband and I moved to Lexington 21 years ago, and we have three adult children and two mischievous dogs who keep us on our toes. My first career was in teaching, elementary and primary education, and special education. I attended James Madison University and earned a B.S. in speech communication and a teaching license in early childhood education and private schools. I earned a M.Ed. in special education and finished my teaching career as an early childhood special education teacher. I left education in 2024 and am excited to begin my second career at W&L.
Q. Any favorite regional spots or activities that excite you?
I love hiking and being near the Maury River or almost any other body water. My current favorite places to hike are on the Goshen Pass trail with the swinging bridge or along the river trails in my Rockbridge Baths neighborhood. Perhaps my favorite activity is going to Lime Kiln theater, either volunteering or attending events, and going to see stage productions at the Lenfest Center. Attending outdoor summer concerts also tops my list.
Q. How do you unwind or have fun? Any hobbies or hidden talents?
I love to travel. I’ve visited 40 of the 50 states and 16 countries on four continents. I enjoy planning these trips for my family, reading about the history of the places I visit and meandering off the beaten path. I also enjoy spending time with my family, friends and two dogs. When we are all home together, we spend our evenings deep in conversation on the back porch, playing games around the dining table, doing puzzles, trying new recipes or watching a movie.
