Fosca Maddaloni-Yu, curatorial fellow with the Washington and Lee University Museums, has received a scholarship from the Decorative Arts Trust to participate in the trust’s study abroad trip to Japan scheduled for Sept. 15-28.

The trip’s itinerary traverses the entire island and features exclusive tours of celebrated museums and sacred shrines as well as visits to renowned artist studios and galleries.

“I am deeply grateful for this tremendous opportunity to study Japan’s artistic and cultural traditions firsthand,” said Maddaloni-Yu. “Beyond the immersive experiences and access to remarkable sites, I am especially looking forward to connecting with fellow scholars and art enthusiasts and bringing these insights back to share with students and colleagues at W&L. I would like to thank the Decorative Arts Trust for their generous support in making this possible.”

Maddaloni-Yu’s scholarship covers the full cost of the program, including airfare, hotel accommodations, meals, local transportation, gratuities and the cost of admission for the various experiences.

Maddaloni-Yu is in her first year at W&L after serving as a visiting assistant professor at Brown University, where she earned a Ph.D. in the history of art and architecture. She has also been a lecturer at Boston University and an adjunct instructor at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in East Asian studies from Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza (Italy) and a Master of Arts from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
