Tickets are required and are available online or in person at the Lenfest Box Office.
W&L’s National Theatre Live series features screenings of three top British theater productions and is intended to connect university knowledge and art experiences on the W&L campus and beyond to the local community in a mutually beneficial partnership. “Prima Facie” was screened on March 5 and “Fleabag” will be screened on May 7.
Based on the 1818 novel by Mary Shelley, Nick Dear’s “Frankenstein” follows the journey of Victor Frankenstein’s creature who, childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Met with cruelty wherever he goes, the increasingly desperate and vengeful creature becomes determined to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.
Directed by Academy Award winner Danny Boyle and filmed live during its run at the Olivier Theatre in London, the production stars Jonny Lee Miller as the creature and Benedict Cumberbatch as Victor Frankenstein. In an Oliver Award-winning performance, Miller conveys the rapid progress of the creature, both mentally and physically, by gradually becoming more active and fluid in movement. Cumberbatch brings out Frankenstein’s descent into pride-driven insanity as he struggles to come to terms with the result of his experiments.
