W&L Presents Screening of the West End’s ‘Fleabag’ The May 7 screening concludes the Lenfest Center’s National Theatre Live series.

FLEABAG-282x350 W&L Presents Screening of the West End’s ‘Fleabag’The Lenfest Center at Washington and Lee University will conclude its National Theatre Live series with a screening of “Fleabag” on May 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Stackhouse Theater in Elrod Commons.

Tickets are required and are available online or in person at the Lenfest Box Office.

W&L’s National Theatre Live series features screenings of three top British theater productions and is intended to connect university knowledge and art experiences on the W&L campus and beyond to the local community in a mutually beneficial partnership. “Prima Facie” was screened on March 5 and “Frankenstein” was screened on April 7.

Written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and directed by Vicky Jones, “Fleabag” is a “rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life.”

The stage production inspired the BBC hit television series “Fleabag” and closely follows the plot of the first season, and also features characters who don’t appear in the series. On the surface, the titular character Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally underdeveloped and narcissistic, but her vulnerability slowly emerges and uncomfortable truths are revealed. With family and friendships strained and a guinea pig café struggling to stay afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose.

Described by The Daily Telegraph as “filthy, funny, snarky and touching,” Fleabag premiered at the Wyndham’s Theatre on London’s West End in 2019 after debuting at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and completing an international tour. Waller-Bridge’s one-woman show has received numerous awards, including two Off West End Theatre Awards for Best Female Performance and Most Promising New Playwright, and the Critics’ Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright.

Order your tickets online today or call the Lenfest Center box office at 540-458-8000 for ticket purchase information. Box office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The cost is $20 for general admission and $8 for students.
