The Campus Kitchen at Washington and Lee has received $1,725 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation and will use the gift to fund the local School Backpack Program.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Food Lion Feeds Foundation and look forward to using these funds to further support our work with Rockbridge-area children,” said Ryan Brink, Campus Kitchen coordinator.
The Campus Kitchen Backpack Program addresses the gap that children on free- and reduced-lunch programs experience over the weekends. Partnering with local area preschools, elementary schools and middle schools, the Campus Kitchen provides a pack full of various food and snack items to eligible children on a weekly basis.
Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
