Washington and Lee University will host a reception to honor the memory of Ted DeLaney ’85 as part of Young Alumni Weekend. The reception will take place on Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. in the Special Collections Reading Room located in James Graham Leyburn Library on campus. DeLaney, who was professor of history emeritus and former chair of the Africana Studies Program at W&L, passed away in December 2020.

The public is invited to attend the event, but attendees must be masked in compliance with W&L’s COVID-19 guidelines.

After brief introductions to Professor DeLaney’s remarkable career, his recently edited oral history memoir, “Conversations with Ted DeLaney,” and other related materials in Special Collections, those in attendance will be invited to share their recollections of this revered member of the W&L and Lexington communities.

The event is sponsored by W&L’s Africana Studies Program, Special Collections and History Department.
