Leah Naomi Green, a visiting assistant professor of English at Washington and Lee University and the winner of the 2019 Walt Whitman Award, was recently interviewed on NPR’s Morning Edition for the bicentennial of American poet Walt Whitman’s birth.

In her interview Green said of Whitman, “He’s just very real to me. I think that there’s no poet whose work has been more real to my writing and teaching than Whitman has.”

Whitman was born 200 years ago on May 31, 1819.
