Tina Jin ’21, a sophomore and computer science major at Washington and Lee University, will participate in the German American Exchange Internship Program (GAE) this summer.

Jin will be working for Dürr System AG in Bietigheim Bissingen in Baden Württemberg, Germany, a small town near Stuttgart.

“I will join the company as an intern in the Manufacturing Execution Systems & Controls Team,” said Jin. “The company specializes in assembly and painting systems, and my anticipated work will be analyzing the data from these systems using software tools to improve the production process if any inefficiency is found.”

Jin will depart for Germany on May 11 and will live and work there for three months. Jin credits the German Department and her computer science classes at Washington and Lee for preparing her for the next step in her educational journey.

She said, “I feel that the German department helps form a close-knit community around language and cultural studies. The Words of Wisdom event, where previous participants in internship or fellowship programs shared their experience, made me aware of this opportunity, and the computer science classes I took helped me prepare for the interviews and figure out what I want to do this summer and to think about my career path.”
